Teaching Tolerance: Free Resources Available!!

Teaching Tolerance, a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center, is an often overlooked resource for free materials and teacher support. In this time of celebrating diversity, teaching peaceful problem solving skills, and educating ourselves and the children we serve on the effects of hate and prejudice, Teaching Tolerance offers help and hope.

TeachingTolerance.org is an online community where educators, students and parents can find resources and share ideas for promoting equity and respect in the classroom and beyond. More than 600,000 educators currently receive free award-winning Teaching Tolerance materials. With the launch of their new web site, that community of caring teachers reaches farther and wider than ever before.

TeachingTolerance.org delivers resources that can make a difference at every school and in every classroom:

  • Easy-to-use lesson plans outline great tolerance-related classroom activities for all grade levels, including early childhood;
  • Teaching Tolerance online magazine showcases innovative, replicable programs from schools across the country;
  • Tolerance updates keep you current on vital issues.

The interactive “Responding to Hate at School” guide shows you how to react effectively when hate strikes.

Hidden Bias Tests help you identify and evaluate your own unconscious attitudes towards differences.

In addition to web resources, Teaching Tolerance has a host of printed materials available free of charge to educators. Their magazine, published twice a year, is a wonderful free resource, as are a variety of curriculum kits, including “Starting Small: Teaching Tolerance in Preschool and Early Grades”, and “A Place at the Table: Struggles for Equality in America”.
