Thrivent Study Reveals Both Strengths and Challenges Facing Lutheran Early Childhood Centers

Thrivent (formerly AAL/LB) is proud to announce the completion of a year-long study devoted to exploring Lutheran Early Childhood Centers (LECCs) and their relationship to the congregations they are affiliated with. Those of you who are early childhood center directors and teachers may recall participating in a survey a year ago which provided data for this study.

The study proved to be a very successful venture that yielded key insights to understanding how LECCs work—and how they could work better.

Overall, the results are positive. The LECCs are highly valued in the community and key individuals (LECC directors, pastors and board members) agree on the respective role that each should play in respect to the LECC.

However, there are definite problem areas and challenges that the LECCs are facing nationwide. This includes financial instability, lack of administrative leadership and skills, and poor communication between the congregation, pastor and LECC director.
