Focusing On The
First Concept
How to start your
wellness program
AWARENESS: Share
with others, staff/children/parents, what wellness is. Tell them
the importance of seeing and addressing the “Total Person”.
Set goals together and then follow through with them to see if
they are being worked on or achieved.
EDUCATION/TOOLS/SKILLS: Provide
information and materials on Wellness Awareness as Goal Setting.
Provide them with resources, workshops or classes on Goal Setting,
Nutrition, Communication Skills, Self-esteem, Stress Management
Skills, Parenting Skills, Exercising, etc.
GROWTH: Continue
the awareness and provide the education and skills to use in
having a well balanced lifestyle, and GROWTH WILL COME.
AWARENESS
(Set Individual Goals)
Educators know that role modeling is one of the most effective
ways to educate. Therefore, Wellness needs to start with the
administrator, teachers, office and other staff members.
- Set your own personal goals!
- Have staff members draw names to
select a Wellness Prayer Partner.
- Share your goals, check on each
other each week to see the progress, and encourage and pray
for each other.
GOAL IN WELLNESS
Use a Goals in Wellness
form (included in the next issue of Views & Vision) for the
families in your school to discuss at home and then return to
school. You may want to send one home for the parents and one for
the student. Have the student goals returned to you so you can
discuss and encourage them periodically on the progress of their
goals. Goals may be altered or others added to meet the needs of
your population.
SHARING GOAL PROGRESS
Throughout the year staff
and students and parents share the progress of their goals. In
your newsletter or communication to parents and community, give
examples of goal sharing. Example: “Mrs. Smith has walked 50
miles since January 1st. Congratulations! This brings awareness,
recognition and positive feedback.
