An 'E' Ticket Ride!
Rich Lewis, Interim Co-Director
of
Lutheran Schools of Southern California & Hawaii (LSSCH) -
ELEA Network 20
As a native Californian from Orange
County, I watched Disneyland transform acres of orange groves into
a worldly paradise. In the early years, Disneyland required
an 'E' ticket for the larger attractions. The past twenty
two years of my ministry have definitely been an 'E' ticket ride
of priceless value.
From Northern California where my
ministry began, to Fort Worth, Texas and back to Southern
California, the footsteps of Jesus have led the way. For 22
years I have had the privilege to watch children of different ages
grow in faith. I can think of no higher honor than to be a
small part of their lives.
“Grace and Peace to you from God
our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." The apostle Paul
wrote to his dearest friends many, many, times using this phrase
as his opening. It was imperative for Paul to 'connect' with
his readers and take every opportunity to nurture, encourage, and
empower them for all that was needed for doing the ministry of the
day. I am nothing close to Paul, but I do share his greeting
with you all.
I am taking an early retirement
from youth and schools ministry to slow down a bit, focus on my
grandchildren and to spend more time with the fine arts ministry
at Messiah Lutheran in Yorba Linda.
Scripture continually reminds us
that it is God who is ultimately in charge and our job is to
follow wherever and whenever He leads. For none of us
lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone.
If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the
Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the
Lord. Romans 14: 7-8.
Belonging to the Lord's family is,
and has been, our bond together. Thank you to all who have
been a blessing in my 'E' ticket ride.
Thank you, Rich, for your many
years of service to Lutheran schools. Enjoy your new
